-Fun class
-Helpful during class and office hours.
Cons: -Very hard assignments
-Hard grader
Although it is a very hard class Katie Hoffman is a great professor and is helpful if you ask for help.
Cons: Ugh. She gives quizzes all the time over very obscure material. I'm a 4.0 student but this class ruined my streak of perfect A's. Assignments are not clearly communicated. Lecture slides are long and wordy and it's difficult to take proper notes. The midterm consisted of nearly 50 questions and an essay to be completed in 50 minutes. The final paper had no rubric, and points were not explained to students. A seemingly arbitrary percentage was tacked on at the end, with most students receiving ridiculously low grades. The instructor does not write clearly or concisely, so feedback came across as nothing more than bashing without information about how to improve. I love to read, but this class very nearly made me dread literature.
This may seem harsh, but I have never been so irritated by a class or instructor as I am with this one. Despite my irritation, my review is entirely based on my experience in the class and is not exaggerated.
Cons: There are a lot of assignments, and they are graded fairly strictly.
I really learned a lot from this course, which was surprising. It also was fun sometimes, and not terribly boring. Overall, I enjoyed this class.
